  41.      PRINTING FROM ACROBAT READER OR EXCHANGE

  43.      When printing from Acrobat Reader or Acrobat Exchange, users
  44.      should make sure that the Orientation as set in the driver Setup tab
  45.      matches the orientation of the document as displayed in Acrobat.  If
  46.      it does not, Acrobat will rotate the page image 180 degrees, and
  47.      printing will be very slow.  The SuperScript 860 driver cannot
  48.      override Acrobat's settings.
  49.  
  50.     PRINTING POSTERS WITH COREL DRAW 6.0
  51.     ====================================
  52.      Using the SuperScript 860 driver Poster option may cause some
  53.      Corel Draw files to take a long time to print.  To fix this, turn off the
  54.      "Wait Time-Out" setting in the DOS control panel program:
  55.       1- Run the NEC860CP.EXE file from the DOS prompt.
  56.       2- Select "Change Printer Settings" from the Main menu.
  57.       3- Select "Wait Timeout", and select "OFF".

  60.      CHANGING  PCL FONT SETTINGS IN DOS CONTROL PANEL  
  61.     =================================================
  62.      If you make changes to the PCL settings in the DOS Control Panel
  63.     (NEC860CP.EXE), you must turn the printer off and then on for the
  64.     changes to take effect.  You use these settings when printing multiple
  65.     "dumb" PCL jobs (i.e. print jobs that do not specify such things as
  66.     fonts and  paper  sources, such as DOS Printscreen).

  69.      PRINTING FROM TURBOTAX AT 150 DPI
  70.      =================================
  71.      In TurboTax for Windows,  text printed at 150 dpi may be illegible.
  72.      You should print at 300 or 600 dpi with this application.

  75.      PRINTING FROM A DOS BOX IN WINDOWS 95
  76.      ======================================
  77.      To get optimum performance when printing from a DOS box in
  78.      Windows 95 while Status Monitor is running, set "Spool MS-DOS
  79.      print jobs" to ON. To do this:
  80.  
  81.      1) Click the "Start" button, select "Settings", and then select
  82.          "Printers".
  83.      2) Double-click the NEC SuperScript 860 icon. 
  84.      3) Click "Printer" and then select "Properties".
  85.      4) Click the "Details" tab.
  86.      5) Click the "Port settings" button.
  87.      6) Check the "Spool MS-DOS Print Jobs" button.

  90.      USING SUPERSCRIPT 860 & SUPERSCRIPT 600 SERIES
  91.     ============================================
  92.     
  93.      SuperScript 860 and SuperScript 600 Series (610 Plus, 660, 660I)
  94.      printers can coexist, although there are a few things to watch out for:
  95.  
  96.      - To use both printers, make sure only the appropriate Status
  97.        Monitor for each printer is active.  Deselect the "Automatically
  98.        load Status Monitor" selection in the SS860 Status Monior
  99.        Preferences tab.
  100.      - Do not change the default printer to SuperScript 600 Series from
  101.        the SuperScript 860 Status Monitor.
  102.      - Using the  SuperScript 860 Status Monitor while a SuperScript 600
  103.        Series is connected can cause GPF errors.
  104.      - SuperScript 600 Series Status Monitor does not provide any
  105.        information  on SuperScript 860.

  108.      USING SUPERSCRIPT 860 & SUPERSCRIPT COLOR 3000
  109.      =============================================
  110.      To install and use both printers follow these guidelines:    
  111.  
  112.       - Set the Status Monitors so that they don't automatically load on
  113.        Win95 startup.
  114.       - If you use a Status Monitor, make sure to start the one that is
  115.         appropriate for the default printer.
  116.       - When you want to switch from one printer to the other, follow this
  117.          procedure:
  118.            1. If a Status Monitor is running, close it.
  119.            2. Turn off the current printer
  120.            3. Connect the new printer, then turn it on.
  121.            4. Go to the Printers folder, highlight the new printer, go to File
  122.               menu, and check Set As Default.
  123.  
  124.       - Do not try to change printers using the SuperScript 860 Status
  125.         Monitor.
  126.

  128.      POSSIBLE CONFLICTS WITH OTHER PRINTERS
  129.      =======================================
  130.      There are a number of other printers which have "status monitor"
  131.      programs, similar to the SuperScript 860 Status Monitor, that check
  132.      the status of the printer and provide visual or audible feedback.  As a
  133.      general rule of thumb, you should use these printers with their own
  134.      status monitor programs.  To avoid possible conflicts, the 
  135.      SuperScript 860 Status Monitor should be turned off when using
  136.      these printers.
  137.         
  138.      There are a variety of other printers which are installed in such a
  139.      way as to cause problems when printing from the SuperScript 860 on
  140.      the same port.  In order to deal with this, the SuperScript 860 install
  141.      program will comment out the conflicting software from WIN.INI
  142.      and SYSTEM.INI files.  Any changes made to WIN.INI and
  143.      SYSTEM.INI file are preceded (in the file) by a comment 
  144.      noting that the change was made by the install program.  Backup
  145.      copies of WIN.INI and SYSTEM.INI are made as WIN.NEC and
  146.      SYSTEM.NEC.
  147.      
  148.      Removing conflicting printer software allows the SuperScript 860 to
  149.      print without problems, but may cause problems when printing from
  150.      the conflicting printer.  Here is a list of printers and the changes
  151.      made by the SuperScript 860 install program to remove conflicting
  152.      software:
  153.      
  154.      *** Printers:      HP 5MP, 5P, 5L, 4L
  155.                                Lexmark WinWriter 400
  156.                                Canon LBP-860
  157.                                TI MicroLaser Win/4
  158.                                NEC SuperScript Color 3000
  159.      
  160.      These printers all utilize Microsoft's Windows Printing System
  161.     (WPS) printing software.  In order to allow the SuperScript 860 to
  162.      printer properly when one of the above printers has been installed,
  163.      the following changes are made:
  164.      
  165.      The install program removes any of the following from the RUN=
  166.      line in the [windows] section of WIN.INI:
  167.      
  168.                   HPSW.EXE
  169.                   HPLJSW.EXE
  170.                   WPSHRC.EXE
  171.      
  172.                 Remove any line of the following format:
  173.      
  174.                   QP.LPTx=...
  175.      
  176.                 where "x" indicates the same LPT port that the SS860 is
  177.                 being installed to.
  178.      
  179.      The install program removes the following line from the [device]
  180.      section of SYSTEM.INI:
  181.      
  182.                 DEVICE=WPSPEPPY.386
  183.                        WPSLJVPD.386
  184.                        WPSC1EM.386
  185.                        WPSBANDS.386

  209. PRINTING FROM DRIVER ONLINE HELP

  211. When printing from the SuperScript 860 driver or Status Monitor Online Help, some gray text backgrounds may not print .

  214. MULTIPLE INSTALLATION AND UNINSTALLATION OF THE DRIVER
  215. ========================================================
  216. Running the SuperScript 860 install program over an existing 860 driver installation creates additional printer icons named SuperScript 860 copy 2, copy 3, etc.   The SuperScript 860 uninstall program removes only the original install printer icon as well as  the driver and Status Monitor. Other printer icons (copy 2, copy 3, etc.) are left behind.   These icons should be deleted manually.  It is generally recommended that you first uninstall the SuperScript 860 driver software before a new installation.

  219. PRINTSHOP DELUXE 3.0
  220. ====================
  221. Some images printed from PrintShop Deluxe may get clipped at the bottom of the page.  If you experience this, we recommend adding more RAM to the printer.

  224. PRINT IMAGING MODES IN EXCEL AND POWERPOINT
  225. =============================================
  226. Using the "Optimize for Graphics and Photos" option in the SuperScript 860 driver with these applications may result in incorrect output.  Use one of the other two imaging options to fix this problem.

  229. PRINTER  STATUS MONITOR DOESN'T LOAD AUTOMATICALLY AT SYSTEM STARTUP
  230. ========================================================================
  231. Some software applications like Quicken and  Norton Desktop add a line in WIN.INI that takes precedence over SuperScript 860 Status Monitor load=ASISTAT line.  This prevents the Status Monitor from loading automatically at system startup.  In this case the Status Monitor can be loaded manually by double-clicking the NEC SuperScript Status Monitor icon or selecting it from the Windows 95 Start menu.

  234. BOOKLET PRINTING
  235. =================
  236. Some software applications such as PageMaker, Quark Xpress, FreeHand, and others use their own techniques for booklet printing.   If you experience problems using the SuperScript 860 driver booklet option with these applications, use the application's own booklet printing options.
